Hemorrhoid disease is one of the most common anorectal disorders that affect people worldwide.1,2 Hemorrhoids, with a reported prevalence of 4% up to 55% of general population, affect people across all ages, sex, races, and ethnicities.1-3 Although the problem can occur at any age and can affect both men and women, the peak prevalence has been reported between 45 and 65 years of age, with a subsequent decrease after the age of 65 years.4,5 Despite its prevalence and low morbidity, hemorrhoid disease is a significant health care burden with a high impact on quality of life.1
