Gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the stomach, small intestine, or large intestine presenting with abdominal pain, cramping, nausea, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea. It is one of the most common global illnesses, contributing substantially to morbidity and mortality, with the greatest burden in children and the elderly, where it may range from asymptomatic infection to severe dehydration and death. Acute gastroenteritis lasts <14 days, persistent 14–30 days, and chronic >30 days.
Vitamin D Deficiency (VDD) is a global pandemic and remains the most underdiagnosed and undertreated nutritional disorder, affecting people of all ages, genders, races, and geographies. It impacts nearly 1 billion individuals worldwide, in both developed and developing nations, irrespective of sunshine availability.
Although Vitamin D is synthesized in the skin upon UVB exposure, deficiency remains widespread even in sun-rich regions like India. Despite India's equatorial advantage, VDD persists as a "silent epidemic" due to urbanization, reduced outdoor activity, pollution, darker skin pigmentation, and cultural practices limiting sun exposure.
