The coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2), has known to affect more than 70 million people worldwide and is the cause of COVID-19 that includes both asymptomatic or pauci-symptomatic forms and rapidly progressive deadly forms. Owing to the fact that virus has marked tropism for respiratory tract; SARS-CoV-2 is spread and transmitted mainly through direct or indirect droplets exposure. Also, entry receptor for virus, ACE2, is highly expressed in epithelial cells of the upper airways. COVID-19 also has the potential to alter the gut microbiome, including enrichment of opportunistic organisms and depletion of beneficial commensals.
