Obesity – defined as a body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m2 – has emerged as a pandemic disease, affecting approximately 650 million people worldwide; and the incidence seems to be increasing continuously. The disease has a multifactorial etiology, contributed by several factors ranging from non-modifiable factors like genetic predisposition to modifiable actors like sedentary habits and unbalanced & unhealthy diets.
