Nephrolithiasis is not a rare condition anymore. Affecting approximately 10% of adults, it is a common affliction now, both in the Western and the non-Western world. Many population-based studies have demonstrated a rising prevalence. Moreover, recurrence is also a concern. It occurs frequently after an initial stone event. No doubt, the disease places a significant burden on the health care system, which is likely to increase with time.
