Management Of Fracture Risk In CKD

Chronic kidney disease (CKD), associated with high morbidity and mortality due to underlying metabolic bone disorders is known to affect between 8 and 16% of adults worldwide and is increasing in incidence.1-3 Bone mineral disorder (BMD), osteoporosis and fragility fractures, including hip and vertebral fractures are associated with CKD, with the fracture risk being increased in those on dialysis with incidence rates of fractures ranging from 12 to 45/1000 patient-years. CKD is also associated with frailty and falls, fall injuries as well as muscle strength and flexibility markers including functional reach.
