Management of Nocturia in Patients with LUTS

Nocturia: A common complaint Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) encompass several diagnoses, including overactive bladder (OAB) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Nocturia – the urge to urinate at night when micturition was directly preceded and followed by sleep,1 is a common complaint seen in population, is also included in OAB and BPH, but it can also present as a standalone symptom.2,3 According to the International Continence Society (ICS), it is defined as “a complaint that the individual has to wake at night one or more times to void”.4 The definition is significant since more than two nocturnal voids are considered to be a clinically meaningful threshold associated with significant negative outcomes for health and well-being.
