Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a frequent cause of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in aging men, is characterized by non-malignant enlargement of the prostate gland. This is attributed to uncontrolled hyperplastic growth of fibromuscular and epithelial tissues in the transition zone and periurethral region. Around 50% of men by the age of 60 years have BPH in India.
